Oriental Longhair Cat
Breed: Oriental Longhair Cat Description: The Oriental Longhair is a slender cat with a very Siamese look, but instead of the short hair of the Siamese, they have medium long hair – available in far more colors, offering a choice of over 300. Characteristics: The Oriental Longhair is very similar in personality to the Siamese cat. Very people oriented and likes to be the center of attention and is always underfoot. They can be quite demanding and do not like to be left alone for long hours on end. They’re a very loyal and devoted cat, one who often bonds closely with one particular person. They are extremely affectionate and love to snuggle and are the happiest when they are on the lap of a human or at the least cuddled up beside them. The Oriental Longhair is a very active cat who loves to climb and play, they are always curious and clever and can sometimes be quite mischievous. This can be a very talkative cat, who always seems to have something, they feel, is very important to say. An intelligent cat who trains fairly easily and enjoys games. They do well with children of all ages as long as they are not extremely rough and adapts well to living with other cats and dogs. Origins: Developed in the 1970s, the Oriental Longhair is a close relative of the Siamese, Oriental Shorthair and the Balinese. It was once called the British Angora but due to confusion with the Turkish Angora, the name was officially changed in 2002 to the Oriental Longhair. Special needs: Due to the lack of undercoat the Oriental Longhair does not suffer from the tats and knots many of the other longhaired breed have to deal with, but still needs regular brushing to keep neat and tidy. They also suffer from teeth problems so need regular teeth cleaning to ensure they stay healthy. Highlights : – The Oriental Longhair has an average life span of about 15 years. – They love to climb and are very comfortable in high places. Getting them one of the large cat trees to play, climb and sleep on would be much appreciated by the cat. – Oriental Longhairs are generally a healthy breed but they do seem to be prone to both heart and liver disorders. Regular check ups are important to keep healthy and happy – Not only is the Oriental Longhaired called the British Angora, but is also known as the Javanese and the Mandarin. – The Oriental Longhair comes in a very beautiful all white but care should be taken when getting an all white kitten as they can be prone to deafness.
