Description: The Persian is a short heavy bodied cat with long flowing hair and a sweet flat face full of expression. This beautiful coat come is a variety of solid and multi colours.

Characteristics: The Persian is a calm, quiet, laid back gentle cat, very placid and sweet tempered. They are affectionate, but is much less demanding of attention than many other cat breeds and though playful, not given to real mischief. They do best in a quiet serene home, however with patience and love can adjust to living in a more active environment. They fit well into a family, being a friend to humans of all ages and usually get along well with other cats and well tempered dogs.

Origins: The Persian is thought be one of the oldest breeds of cats. The origins are thought to come from their namesake Persia – which is now Iran- and Turkey. They were brought to Europe by traders with silks, jewels and exotic spices. Due to their beautiful and dignified looks, they were immediately embraced by the rich and affluent and became very popular as a status symbol.

Special needs: The long coat needs to be brushed daily and needs regular baths to keep neat, clean and tat free. It is best to start their daily grooming experience from the day you bring them home – getting them use to it and enjoying it. Their large eyes can tear up and need to be washed gently every day.

- The Persian cat is the most popular breed of purebred cat. However it should be noted, they can also be the most prone to health problems.

- The Persian is not one for climbing, preferring to keep their feet on the floor.

- Usual life span is about 15 years, but some can reach 20 years.

- The Persian is best suited as an indoor cat. The outside world is far too dangerous and that long beautiful coat could easily become a complete disaster after any time spent outside.

- Due to their pushed in face, they can suffer from breathing problems and should never be left in hot stuffy places.
